Is Cream Soda based upon the Egg Cream Sodas in NYC that I’ve heard of ?
Not really. Cream soda is usually, but not always, flavored with vanilla. An Egg Cream (which has no egg) is usually :
2 TBS chocolate syrup
6 oz milk
6 oz soda water
Both taste great.
